It's because of Rick Mercer.

In 2013, The Rick Mercer Report aired a 10-minute segment on Dog Guides Canada. Watching it, the puppy foster program sealed the deal for me: care for a puppy for up to a year, then return it for training so it can live out its higher purpose.

Fast-forward 13 years, and I’ve had the good fortune to be a donor, a foster to Cumin, and a sitter to many more -- 12 dogs in all. Each one, from Amie to Zoodles and many letters in between, brought me enormous joy. I’m better for having known them.

There are few things I can truly call life-changing. Caring for these dogs has been one of them for me.

Dog Guides Canada does work I believe in deeply: improving life for people by providing professionally trained service dogs at no cost. That requires a good deal of support. 

This coming May, Bella and I will be walking in support of Dog Guides and the good work they do. If you’re able to donate in any way and for any amount, I’d be grateful. I think she would be too.
