Why I’m walking for dog guides

Monday 12th May
14 years ago today, I could not have imagined my life to turn out the way it has. Surviving a terrible car accident and struggling to find treatment for my resulting injuries, I was an isolated, depressed teenager who could not see past the darkness that surrounded me.

Enter Neno, a 3 year old pint sized Shih tzu, who waltzed into my life, wiggle bumming and smiling to high heaven. Having him gave my life purpose. Caring for him gave me the motivation to grow. His love, along with that of my human family and friends transformed my life. 

Who would have thought a 15 pound furball would have so much power. I can truly say without a shadow of a doubt, his love rescued me.

He was not a trained service animal, but he was exactly what I needed in my journey. However, there are many people who require a service dog to regain or gain for the first time the ability to live their lives with more independence and self-confidence. The training a service dog goes through is intense, lengthy and often cost-prohibitive without the support of organizations such as the one we are gathered to support today. 

Even though Neno is no longer on this side of rainbow bridge with me, the confidence and love he instilled in me lives on. I am walking for dog guides in honour of my sweet angel Neno, so someone can find their furry angel. Please join me in raising funds for this important cause. Thank you for all your support.
