One Step Forward: Why 3,000 Steps Means Everything
Wednesday 15th AprThere’s something different about this year’s Walk for Dog Guides.
On the surface, my goal is simple: 3,000 steps. For a lot of people, that might sound like a warm-up or just part of a regular day. But for me, it represents something much bigger.
For a long time, walking hasn’t been something I could take for granted. Every bit of movement came with a calculation — how far is too far, how much will this cost me later, how many days will I need to recover? Progress didn’t feel like progress. It felt like managing limits.
So choosing to work toward 3,000 steps isn’t just about the number. It’s about a shift. It’s about being able to look ahead and build toward something instead of constantly pulling myself back.
And I won’t be doing it alone — Topaz will be right there with me every step of the way.
We’re taking part in the Walk for Dog Guides to support an incredible cause. Dog Guides change lives in ways that are hard to fully capture — offering independence, safety, companionship, and confidence to the people who need them most. Being able to walk in support of that, while also reaching a personal milestone, makes this feel even more meaningful.
This year feels different. Hopeful, in a way that’s been missing for a while.
